Overall Review: Just buy it, it's a good card. The description on the first panel of the newegg info page was probably copied and pasted from the retail version's newegg page. The light that is on the card is the icing on the cake.Д¬ons: While I did not expect the OEM version of the card to come with the beamforming microphone, the description said that it would - as a result, I planned by budget accordingly.however, a microphone does not come with the sound card and now I must deal with the extra expense of finding a microphone to game with. Instructions were NOT needed, even though they were conveniently included.

The install of the Soundblaster Z was easy, as was the connection to the front panel header. Once you try a dedicated soundcard, especially one like the Sound Blaster Z, you will never settle for anything less. I have only ever used Realtek HD Audio and ignorance really is bliss. Pros: The audio is crisp, and believe me when I say that using a dedicated soundcard is a huge improvement over onboard Realtek HD Audio. I am also very pleased to see Creative have made great strides in their drivers. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the purchase of the Z and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. However after putting this in, I was like wow! Incredible, and imho even better that the Fatality Pro. During that time I ran the onboard RealTech sound, which I thought was pretty good. I built my sytem on Monday, this card arrived on Wed.

I came from a Titanium Fatality Pro on my old system, that was pretty darn good although the drives kind of screwy. As I have a Klipsch 2.1 set, with it's own amp, I just set it up as 2 speakers with no bass boost. Basically what you have to do is de-select the speakers you do not have, it then sets up properly. In the speaker setup screen, there is no choice other that 5.1 speakers ( well headphone).

The 8.1 official drivers are slated for release before the end of the month. It is running beautifully on Windows 8.1 for me.

While there is talk on the Creative forums of the 8.0 driver being broke for 8.1, many have found that not to be the case, as have I.

Overall Review: I put this card in a new system build this week, with Windows 8.1 They are scheduled for release by year's end. It however can be set up for say a 2.1 setup easily, once you see how.Д¬reative has not released Windows 8.1 drivers yet ( they do have 8.0 drivers ), however in my case works just fine with the 8.0 drivers. OEM Versions has all home gamer needs ( just does not have pretty red cover )Д¬an't beat the price, very good bang for the buck valueД¬ons: Software setup is not real clear on speaker setup for less than a 5.1 setup.
